A phonogram is the second part of a syllable, the part beginning with a vowel. For example in the word 'spell' the phonegram is 'ell' and 'sp' is the onset of the syllable.

Two consonants put together to blend the sounds is called a consonant cluster or sound blend. These occur at the beginning of a syllable. Sometimes when consonants are put together they change sound completely for example s and h together makes sh as in 'shell'.
