Traffic counts
Pigot St, Downer
Pigot St is one of about nine streets where cars can enter or exit from Downer. There are also several places where pedestrians and cyclists can enter and exit, but cars can't. Between 7.15am and 9am on Thursday 11 February 2010, 291 vehicles passed through Pigot St, at a peak rate of 1 every 13 seconds. This included 232 motor vehicles (including several trucks and two motorcycles), 31 pedestrians and 28 cyclists (including 8 school children). No school children walked; school children in motor vehicles were not counted.
Motor vehicles comprised 80% of the traffic, pedestrians 11% and cyclists 10%. Cycling school children comprised 3% of traffic. 81% of the traffic was outwards, and 19% inwards. 15-minute total traffic counts are shown below.

Legge St, Downer
Legge St is a residential street in Downer, in Canberra's “inner north” with 43 dwellings. Because it has between 30 and 100 dwellings*, it is classed as an “Access Street B.” In Canberra's Future Urban Area Residential Subdivision Development Code, an Access Street B has a “desirable speed environment” of 40 km/h, road reserve width of 18.5m, carriageway width of 6m, one hard parking space per two block frontages, layback or upright kerbs, and a 1.2m wide footpath on only one side of the street.
