Workshops
Pipe and Tabor (50
minutes).
Play
tunes on a one-handed whistle, while you beat your own drum
accompaniment. It's the original one-man-band, and still popular in
Spain, France and Portugal, and for morris dancing. If you can pat
your head while you rub your stomach, you can play pipe and tabor.
Tabor
pipes supplied, or you can bring your own penny whistle.
Spoonslappers (50
minutes).
The surprise 'little hit' of the 2008 Cobargo and
2009 Cygnet Folk Festivals – Leon will demonstrate and teach
how to make music on that most utilitarian of instruments – the
spoons. Join in a spoons “choir” and accompany different
tune types with different rhythms and sounds. Leon will supply
spoons, or you can bring your own.
Beyond the Basics - Rolls, Slurs, Trills and Grace Notes
(50 minutes).
For penny whistles, wind instruments,
fiddles and other instruments. If you've mastered some tunes and want
to add more interest to your playing, this is the workshop for you.
Leon explains and demonstrates trills, slurs, grace notes and short
and long rolls, leads you through each technique, and discusses how
you can use them to make any tune your own.
Penny Whistle for beginners (50 minutes).
The
penny whistle has an exquisite sound and is great fun to play. Yet
even a top-class whistle can be inexpensive. If you've ever wanted to
play a penny whistle, then come to this workshop and have a blow.
Bring your own whistle, or Leon will supply one. Leon explains and
demonstrates how to hold the whistle, how to make the different
notes, and how to put the notes together into several tunes. The rest
is up to you!
Children's Sessions
