President's Report

The Easter Pageant is now less than a month away, and I encourage all members to participate in what will be a memorable weekend. The venue is Eaglehawk Holiday Park on the Federal Highway, and the program kicks off on the Saturday morning with a concourse, followed by a driver skills event in the afternoon. On Sunday there will be an all-day observation trial to some interesting places in the Canberra region, with the Pageant dinner at night at Eaglehawk. The absolute drop-dead date to register is 31 March, but don't leave it until the last day - do it now! Event coordinator, John Bower, would love to hear from you. I urge all local members to attend either for the dinner only (cost $40), or as a full registrant (cost $67, which includes dinner, a show-bag of goodies and entry to all events (concourse, novelty trial etc).

I missed last month's club meeting owing to a work trip to Ahmedabad in northwestern India. Ahmedabad is on the edge of the Thar Desert, but all of India is in a Peugeot Desert, it seems - I have yet to see a single Peugeot in 3 trips to India, though I have been told that some of the cars have Peugeot engines. Actually, I tell a lie, I did see a Peugeot on this last trip - a 403 sedan figured prominently in one scene of "Capote", the movie I watched en route courtesy of Singapore Airlines. An excellent movie, by the way...... The club was well represented at the annual Wheels exhibition on the lawns of Old Parliament House on Sunday 12 March. We had a good spread of models represented, from 203 through to 406. Colin Handley's newly painted 203 panel van drew many admiring, and nostalgic comments, as did Dave Rowell's 203 sedan. It's amazing how many people have a 203 experience to relive...... 

Peugeots also infiltrated a couple of other club displays at Wheels, including Ian Brock's 1905 Peugeot motor bike, and Bob Edwards' exquisite 403 panel van. Although I could not attend last month's club meeting, I understand that Graham Gittins gave a very informative talk on the activities of the ACT Council of Motor Clubs - thanks Graham. Our next club meeting will be held at the Italo-Australian Club at 8 pm Tuesday 28 March, when John Phillips will entertain us with pictures from his recent trip to South America and Antarctica.
