President's Report

GREETINGS ALL,

Last month's Annual General Meeting at the Canberra Services Club saw the election of a familiar bunch of office bearers. Thanks to all those committee members who made the 2005-6 year a great success. Highlight of the year was undoubtedly the staging of the Easter Pageant at Eaglehawk Resort, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all those local and interstate members who attended. My particular thanks go to John Bower, who chaired the Easter Pageant organising committee, for all his hard work. At the AGM, the club honoured Glen Bryden, our long-serving Treasurer, with Life Membership of the club. Congratulations Glen. Also, at the AGM, we enjoyed watching a DVD of the locally made short film, “The Milkman”, featuring the 203 ute of Alan Johnson as the milk truck. Our thanks to Duane Fogwell, the writer and producer of the film, who provided the club with the DVD.

On Sunday 29 October, we held a club economy run to Braidwood. Not surprisingly, (to me at least), my 306 HDi returned the lowest fuel economy figures on the day (4.77 litres/100 km). However, to make it fair, we compared our fuel economy figures with values listed in the owner's handbooks for each model, and John Phillips was judged to be the winner with 7.70 litres/100 km (target 8.0). John Phillips certainly tried the hardest to win the economy run, by all accounts - air con turned off, windows up, and sometimes going so slowly on the highway that 30 or so cars were lined up behind. Next year, John says he has more fuel saving strategies to instigate, such as leaving Victoria at home and ditching his spare wheel and toolkit. Driving naked was also discussed to save weight, but I hope we talked John out of that one.

This month's meeting at the Canberra Services club will feature Sean Patterson, from Melrose Peugeot, who will entertain us with stories from the recent Sydney Motor Show, including all the industry news. This issue of Roar marks the beginning of our switch to e-Roar, which will see the majority of club members receiving the magazine electronically (see separate story). Hopefully this will deliver a better product, as well as reducing the cost and time involved in putting the magazine together. Our final event for the year will be a Christmas BBQ in Lennox Gardens (behind the Hyatt) at 6 pm on Tuesday 12 December. The club will provide the meat and bread; BYO drinks and salads etc.

Keep on pugging,

Brad Pillans
