President's Report

GREETINGS ALL, 

The weather gods have conspired to spoil our annual Christmas BBQ on several previous occasions, and this year's gathering in Lennox Gardens was no exception. Rain is the usual culprit, however, the present drought and bushfires would make rain a very welcome occurrence. Instead, we had an uncommonly cold evening, with some attendees (e.g. Rick Phillips) resorting to picnic blankets for comfort - see picture. Despite the cold, the gourmet sausages, that I provided from my local butcher, were a great success, and coupled with the odd glass of wine, made for a far from unpleasant evening.  Ros Phillips' Christmas crackles were also a highlight. 

So, how did you enjoy the first edition of e-RoaR last month? I thought it was terrific, and I'd like to thank Peter Rees and Allan Lance (with technical help from John Phillips and Bill McNamee) for making it come together so well. Doubtless, it will take a few issues to get the new system working perfectly (for example, we still have a few members email addresses to chase up), but I think the benefits are plain to see. Obvious benefits include the improved quality of images, no page limit (keep those stories coming in), and lower production costs. We hope that the lower magazine costs will free up club funds to provide a greater range of club activities and prizes for special events.

At the November club meeting we were entertained by Sean Patterson from Melrose Peugeot, with an update on industry news, including the International Motor Show in Sydney. Our next club meeting at the Canberra Services Club will be in March, but we will hold a picnic-style event in February to kick the year off (details in the February edition of RoaR). Bill McNamee has been busy in the lead up to Christmas, but I hope that those of you wanting a vehicle service before heading off on holidays, have been able to do so. I wish you all a safe and enjoyable Christmas break. Remember that Stage 3 water restrictions in Canberra and Queanbeyan mean that motor vehicle can only be washed at authorised commercial carwash centres.
